James Lee Sr.

James Lee Sr. was the first black in the history of Melville to go inside of Comeaux's Cafe on Church Street after the time of segregation.  He worked for many years at the Wade Pullen's Esso Station on Church Street.  He then bought it and also added an electronics' shop for radio and TV repair.

MELVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. Augustine W. "Teen-Big Mama" Lee, 100, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. James Methodist Church here with burial in Sweet Home Community Cemetery.

The Rev. Marquerite Jenkins will conduct the services.

Mrs. Lee died Wednesday, February 5, 2003, Jasmine St. in New Orleans.

Survivors include: two sons, Willie W. Lee Sr. of Melville and Andrew L. Lee of Missouri City, Texas; three daughters, Albertha Lee Alexander of New Orleans, Laura Lee Williams of Port Arthur, Texas, and Manda Lee Davis (Ransom) of Palmetto; 28 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Lee; her parents, Elisha and Isabella C. Williams; five sons, Irinron Lee, James Lee Sr., Nelson Lee Sr., John Lee and Elisha Lee; three daughters, Gracie Thomas, Isabella Lee and Augustine Lee; and three sisters, Vinnie Brown, Isabella Washington and Mary Weatheroy.

Visiting hours will be observed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in St. James Methodist Church in Melville.

Williams Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.
